Social Media Marketing

January4

Social marketing has become one of the most important aspects for marketing any business online. It is not a straight forward approach and takes trial and error along with patience and persistence to be successful. Social marketing comes in many shapes and sizes so it is important to really continue education in this marketplace.

Facebook – Facebook has become one of the hottest and most important social networking tools that will only grow in strength. It is advantageous to use and implement this social networking tool into your daily social marketing. Google likes Facebook and gives weight to their links. Facebook, like other social media links such as Twitter and FreindFeed, can help with page rank.

Social Blogging – Social blogging has become a hot topic that is only going to get hotter. Effectively incorporate micro blogging platforms into your daily social marketing routine.

Social Bookmarking – Although social bookmarking is not as robust as it once was it still plays a large role in social media marketing.

YouTube – Many businesses have been trying to figure out just how to use YouTube in their daily marketing plan. Market a company video and increase your brand awareness in the online video sharing websites.

Keywords For SEO

July25

There are so many thoughts on keywords out there….Mine is:

~My keyword tool can kick your keyword tools ass.~

I know this, cause most of them are just junk and produce a bunch of information that is worthless.

There is one great keyword tool and that is it…nice, clean link here… Market Samurai.  (And the time is 2:21pm on Saturday, July 25, 2011.  So, until further notification…this is as good as it gets.)

Of course, it is not free, or even cheap.  But, wait for it, wait for it…YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Now, lets pretend you used Market Samurai and got a nice fat list of great keywords and you hopefully used Keyword Spy to gather keywords from your competitors…what now?  What to do with this groovy information?

It is time to determine which keywords are going to produce conversions.

You can go right into running a PPC campaign with Google and determine exactly which words are converting, eliminating the ones that do not.  By the way, this really is the best way to know for sure.

If you are struggling with this portion, you MUST check out Commission Blueprint. That program has great advanced Adwords tutorials, offers support and it’s rather affordable.

But, what if you don’t want to use Adwords?  What if your focus is strictly on SEO for getting traffic?

There are some tools that are free that can really help.

Microsoft Intent
Website Grader (not really a keyword tool, but it is good to check on keywords and tags in your site.)

Title Tags

Accurate And Unique Page Title

A <title> tag indicates to the search engines and visitors what the page is about.  Each page in the website should have it’s own title.

The below image of  html is from  one of my site pages, entitled, “What Is SEO?

title

This tag can be found usually within the <head></head> tags.

One of the most important factors in achieving high search engine rankings is now and probably forever, the title tag. In fact, they may be even more important than the links that point to the pages or even the text content.

This is very important so listen carefully…search engine query results put the “title” in the clickable link on the page.  You can potentially increase the click through rate by tweaking the keywords in your title.  Not to mention, you may even increase your page rank. Be sure to limit length to 65 characters (including spaces) or less.

The title tag also gives you a great opportunity to go one step further and helps  with essential branding.  Placing your business name in the title tag is totally fine.  Consumers want to trust you and creating a “brand” certainly can have dynamic results.  So, go ahead, it’s fine.

SEO And Domains

July13

Search Engine Optimization…hmmm…basically, in a nutshell, it is gauged by how relevant your site is to a particular search term.

There are many factors that a search engine will take into consideration when generating an ordered list of queries…

Today I am just going to cover one.

Domains

Is Domain Age Crucial for SEO?

Umm…yes.

A huge benefit of old domains are the pre existing links and page rank. They will still pass page rank and some authority even though they may not be relevant to the new content.

Also, since an older, seasoned domain will cost more than just starting a new one, search engines consider this in deciding quality. While they do not know how much the domain cost, they can,  in WHOIS, access the date of registration to determine age.

Here’s a fact.  Search engines classify an exact match to a domain as a navigation query.  What does that mean in English?

If someone is searching for “buy car in Merrillville” and your website is “buycarinmerrillville.com,” you may be shown as the authority for “buy car in Merrillville.” With a few good links and quality content, you can rank on the top of the search query.

This is, however most effective in a non-competitive market.  It will reguire much work and time if the market is overcrowded.  For example, with a term like acne treatment, there are 7,270,000 competitors. I wouldn’t hold my breath.  But, this can work great in a less competitive market place.
